A chemical safety assessment and chemical safety report according to Art. 14 REACH is not required for the registration of a substance in tonnage band 1-10 tonnes. Therefore no DNELs have been derived for this substance.

LD50 of L-Phenylalanine was determined to be 16g/kg bw in an acute oral toxicity study with rats. L-Phenylalanine is practically non-toxic.

Based on the data available no classification for acute toxicity (oral toxicity, dermal toxicity, inhalation toxicity) is required.

The eye irritant potential of the substance was assessed in an in vitro GLP study. The substance did not show any eye irritation. L-Phenylalanine is classified as not irritating to human eye.
