No experimental data evaluating the potential for photodegradation of methyl palmitate (CAS No. 112-39-0) in air are available. Therefore, a QSAR calculation using the AOPWIN v1.92 program has been performed, resulting in an estimated half-life of 20.4 hours (reaction with OH-radicals, 24h-day)(López Parrón, 2011). This value indicates methyl palmitate is susceptible to undergo rapid indirect phototransformation if released into the air. Nevertheless, this is not expected to be a relevant environmental fate process, since methyl palmitate is not expected to be present in the atmosphere in significant amounts based on its vapour pressure value (0.008 Pa at 25 °C). As this study is not a standard information requirement according to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 and there is no indication from the CSA according to Annex I on the need to investigate further the fate and behavior of the substance (Annex X requirement), no testing is considered necessary.
