Description of key information

A partition coefficient study carried out on the reference substance (White & Mullee, 2007AG) gave a determination of 14.9 at 23.0 ± 0.5°C, log10Pow 1.17.

A second study carried out on an analogue substance (White & Woolley, 2007AH) gave a determination of 12.0 at 22.0 ± 0.5°C, log10Pow 1.08.

An additional study carried out on an analogue substance (Sydney, 1997) showed measured partition coefficients of:

pH 5.0: Log10Pow = 0.88, Equivalent Pow = 7.51

pH 7.0: Log10Pow = 1.18, Equivalent Pow = 15.1

pH 9.0: Log10Pow =1.20, Equivalent Pow =15.8

A second study carried out on an analogue substance (White & Woolley, 2007AH) gave a determination of 12.0 at 22.0 ± 0.5°C, log10Pow 1.08.

Both 2007 studies were conducted to the same standards and therefore considered to be reliable whilst the third study was conducted to US FDA Environmental Assessment guidelines. However as the first study (White & Mullee, 2007AG) was carried out on the substance of interest, this was considered to be the key study for the purposes of this assessment.

White & Mullee 2007AG:

The determination was carried out using the shake-flask method, Method A8 of Commission Directive 92/69/EEC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 67/548/EEC).

The partition coefficient of the test material has been determined to be 14.9 at 23.0 ± 0.5°C, log10Pow1.17.

White & Woolley 2007AH: This study was performed on Abacavir Hemisulphate and has been used for read-across purposes.

The determination was carried out using the shake-flask method, Method A8 of Commission Directive 92/69/EEC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 67/548/EEC).

The partition coefficient of the test material has been determined to be 12.0 at 22.0 ± 0.5°C, logl0Pow1.08.

Syney 1997:

A partition coefficient study was conducted according to the US FDA Environmental Assessment Technical Assistance Handbook (March 1987).
