Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The study by Gillo (1936) is in excellent agreement with handbook data (Merck, 2001) and a survey of published literature values (n = 15) carried out by the NIST (http://webbook.nist.gov; see literature search for further available data).

The boiling point is very close to the classification and labelling cut-off for classification as a flammable liquid. The results reported by Gillo were reported to 0.01 °C, and considering the excellent agreement with other workers, are reliable enough for classification and labelling. The study by Gillo was detailed, well documented, and addressed the relevant quality criteria for boiling point measurements. The study was carried out for the express purpose of generating high-quality data for the use as an organic-solvent standard. As a result, testing does not appear scientifically necessary based on the use of existing data and, given the above points, the criteria in Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.1.1 are considered to be met.
