Description of key information

The hydrolytic stability of hydrcortisone  was estimated on basis of its chemical structure and the hydrolytic behaviour of a structurally similar compound.

Result: Hydrocortisone an be expected to be hydrolytically stable in the pH region 4 to 9.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Hydrocortisone does not contain any functional group, which is susceptible to hydrolytic degradation. Thus hydrolytic stability is to be expected. This is experimentally supported by the results of a experimental hydrolysis study with 21 -hydroxy-16 alpha-methyl-4 -pregnene-3,20 -dione, which differs in missing hydroxy groups in positions 11 and 17 an additional methyl group position 16, which was found to be hydrolytically stable in the pH region 4 to 9 (at 25 °C).

The same behaviour is to be expected for hydrocortisone.
