Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, 72-hour EC50 < 18.5 µg/L, NOEC = 18.5 µg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
18.5 µg/L

Additional information

An algal inhibition test (Huntingdon Life Sciences, 2011) was conducted to determine the 72 -hour EC50 of NC-4. The study was performed according to OECD test guideline 201 and EC test guideline C3, and in compliance with GLP. Following a range-finding test, a definitive limit test was conducted at nominally 50 µg/L, which was intentionally greater than the stated water solubility of 43.8 µg/L.

No inhibition of the test group was seen relative to the solvent control group, and no morphological abnormalities were seen in the algal cells. The mean measured concentration of NC-4 in the algal medium throughout the definitive test was found to be 18.5 µg/L On the basis that no reduction in final cell count, and no inhibition in growth rate was seen in the test group compared to the solvent control, it is concluded that the 72 -hour EC50 for NC-4 is greater than 18.5 µg/L, and the No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) is 18.5µg/L.
