First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

Immediately remove contaminated clothing. If the patient is likely to become unconscious, place and transport in stable sideways position (recovery position). First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety.

If inhaled:

Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention. Immediately administer a corticosteroid from a controlled/metered dose inhaler.

On skin contact:

Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist.

On contact with eyes:

Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.

On ingestion:

Immediately rinse mouth and then drink 200-300 ml of water, seek medical attention.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms: The most important known symptoms and effects are described in the labelling and/or in section "toxicological information" of the material safety data sheet.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific antidote. Pulmonary odema prophylaxis. Medical monitoring for at least 24 hours.

Further information on storage conditions: Containers should be stored tightly sealed in a dry place. Storage at a proportionate temperature is required, to avoid 'breathing' of containers.

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection:

Breathing protection if gases/vapours are formed. Gas filter for gases/vapours of organic compounds (boiling point >65 °C, e. g. EN 14387 Type A) Suitable respiratory protection for higher concentrations or long-term effect: Self-contained breathing apparatus.

Hand protection:

Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374)

Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (Recommended: Protective index 6, corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374):

nitrile rubber (NBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness

Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.

Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.

Eye protection:

Tightly fitting safety goggles (cage goggles) (e.g. EN 166) and face shield.

Body protection:

Body protection must be chosen based on level of activity and exposure., full protection suit with breathing-air supply (f.e. according to EN 943)

General safety and hygiene measures

Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe vapour/spray. The substance was registered as a transported isolated intermediate. The manufacturer/importer has received the confirmation by the user that the substance is used under strictly controlled conditions in accordance with art. 18 of the REACH regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Hands and/or face should be washed before breaks and at the end of the shift. Gloves must be inspected regularly and prior to each use. Replace if necessary (e.g. pinhole leaks). Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Store work clothing separately.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Evolution of corrosive gases/vapours. Reacts with water and basic components to generate heat. On contact with water, gaseous decomposition products are formed, which cause build-up of pressure in tightly closed containers. Reacts with alkalies and metals. Reacts with alcohols, amines, aqueous acids and alkalies. Reacts with water and moisture, with formation of hydrogen chloride. Partly very violent reactions with bases and numerous organic classes of substances such as alcohols and amines. Addition of water leads to increase in temperature. In damp air hydrochloric acid formation is possible. Violent reactions with water and/or alcohols, with formation of hydrochloric acid. Substance/product is highly reactive. Violent and explosive reaction with water.

Conditions to avoid

Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame. Avoid direct sunlight. Avoid electro-static charge. Avoid humidity. Avoid heat. Avoid prolonged storage. Disregard of the conditions mentioned may result in undesirable decomposition reactions.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

This product and any uncleaned containers must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

Incinerate in suitable incineration plant, observing local authority regulations.

Contaminated packaging:

Contaminated packaging should be emptied as far as possible; then it can be passed on for recycling after being thoroughly cleaned.
