Sampling time:

Details on results:
Assessment of ready biodegradability using the CO2 evolution test (modified Sturm test) - according to OECD guidelines, the chemical could not be considered as ready biodegradable (see table 1). Additional investigational work using the activated sludge respiration inhibition test (OECD guideline no.209) confirmed that the test material did not exhibit any toxic effects on the inoculum at the concentrations employed in the test.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Remarks:
reference substance (sodium benzoate): 97% degradation after 28 days, pass level reached within 10 days
Interpretation of results:
other: not readily biodegradable
Conclusions:
2,2-bis(chloromethyl)trimethylene bis(bis(2-chloroethyl)phosphate) is not ready biodegradable according to the OECD guidelines (5% degradation after 28 days)
Executive summary:

In a screening test for biodegradation in water (OECD Guideline No 301B) 2,2-bis(chloromethyl)trimethylene bis(bis(2-chloroethyl)phosphate) attained 5% degradation after 28 days. The test substance is therefore considered to be not readily biodegradable, according to terms and conditions of the OECD Guidelines.

An activated sludge respiration inhibition test (OECD guideline no.209) confirmed that the test material did not exhibit any toxic effects on the inoculum at the concentrations employed in the test.
