The solubility of trichromium dicarbide is very low. The water solubility of trichromium dicarbide is <0.5 mg/L (OECD 105 test, 72 h, quantification limit (H.C. Starck GmbH 2012)).The solubility of chromium from chromium oxide in chronic T/D test is<0.01microg/L(Hedberg and Odnevall Wallinder 2012), and from the reaction mass of heptachromium tricarbide and trichromium dicarbide (acute T/D test) <1 microg/L (quantification limit) (Jiang et al. 2011). The amount of dissolved ionic species is so low that it does not significantly contribute to the environmental chromium concentrations in air, water, sediment or soil. The resulting levels are also far below toxic concentrations.

The results on the distribution obtained with soluble chromium compounds are not directly relevant for the assessment of trichromium dicarbide. However, detailed information on the environmental distribution of trivalent chromium compounds are presented in the ICDA documentation on environmental assessment of chromium (ICDA 2010).
