Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Repeated dose, inhalative, rat, GLP, OECD Guideline 412: systemic NOAEC males and females: 350 mg/m³ (BASF 46I0523/89065, 1993).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The neurotoxicity of the test item was investigated in a 28 -day inhalation study in rats performed according to OECD guideline 412 using a functional observational battery of 32 parameters of sensory and motor function and neurohistopathological examination after perfusion fixation (see Chapter 7.5.2, key.BASFAG46I0523/89065.1993.Repeated dose toxicity: inhalation, rat, 28 days). Concentration levels up to 100 ppm (350 mg/m³) with whole-body exposure for 6 hours per day and 5 days per week showed no neurotoxic effects.

Bazarova (1973, IUCLID Chapter 7.5.2) reported that repeated exposure of rats to concentrations 2 or 10 mg/m³ (0.58 and 2.9 ppm) for 4 months caused multiple effects in rats including neurotoxicity. Details were insufficient for an adequate assessment.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Classification, Labeling, and Packaging Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008

The available experimental test data for neurotoxicity are reliable and suitable for the purpose of classification under Regulation (EC) No.1272/2008. As a result, the substance is not warranted to be classified for neurotoxicity, under Regulation (EC) No.1272/2008.
