Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The chemical safety assessment according to Annex I of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 does not indicate the need to investigate further the long-term toxicity to fish.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No data evaluating the long-term toxicity of Fatty acids, C12-16 (even numbered) and C18-unsatd., methyl esters (CAS No. 1234694-02-0) to fish species are available. However, available short term studies in fish, invertebrates and algae and long-term studies with invertebrates and algae all indicate no potential for aquatic toxicity. Furthermore, due to its ready biodegradability it is not likely that aquatic organisms are exposed to the test substance since it will be ultimately degraded in sewage treatment plants. In addition, the ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7b (ECHA, 2012b) states that “chronic fish toxicity testing is generally only necessary, when the P and B criteria are fulfilled” and this is clearly not the case. Hence, to avoid unnecessary vertebrate tests due to animal welfare reasons, no further long-term test with fish is required for Fatty acids, C12-14 (even numbered), methyl esters.
