Principles of method if other than guideline:
Surface tension at 20°C:
The surface tension is determined using a plate tensiometer. A commercially available tensiometer based on the plate methode is used to measure the force which is required to withdraw a horizontally suspended plate from the surface of the test material or its solution in water.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
plate method
Surface tension:
67 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Conc.:

 Determination  Time

Surface tension at 20 °C of

the test item diluted in water

concentration = 1 g/L

   [min]  [mN/m]
 1  10  71.4
 2  34  70.7
 3  56  70.0
 4  75  69.5

Conclusions:
The surface tension of the test item was measured σ = 67.0 mN/m at 20 °C and a concentration of 1 g/L.
Executive summary:

Surface tension of the test item was determined according DIN EN 14370 (OECD 115 and method A.5) and was measured by the plate method using a tensiometer at σ = 67.0 mN/m at 20 °C and a concentration of 1 g/L.

Description of key information

According to EU method A.5, the surface tension of the test item was measured σ = 67.0 mN/m at 20 °C and a concentration of 1 g/L.
