Description of key information

No lethality was observed by either route. All animals survived, gained body weight, and appeared active and healthy during the study. There were no signs of gross toxicity, adverse clinical signs, or abnormal behavior. No gross abnormalities were noted for the animals when necropsied at the conclusion of the 14-day observation periods.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Acute toxicity: via oral route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
LD50
Value:
2 000 mg/kg bw

Acute toxicity: via dermal route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
LD50
Value:
2 000 mg/kg bw

Additional information

The acute oral and dermal LD50 value for Natural oil monomer (Methyl Polyhydroxymethyl Stearate) is > 2000 mg/kg. Due to the low vapour pressure of NOM, the acute inhalation toxicity study was not conducted. As the acute oral and dermal LD50 values are greater than 2000 mg/kg (limit test doses), Natural Oil Monomer does not merit classification based on acute toxicity.

Justification for classification or non-classification

As the acute oral and dermal LD50 values are greater than 2000 mg/kg ( limit test doses), Natural Oil Monomer does not merit classification based on acute toxicity.
