Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance:
Available data suggests that the chemical 2-Propyne-1-sulfonic acid, sodium salt (1:1) is Colourless to Pale Yellow Clear Liquid.(MSDS,Grauer & Weil (India) Limited,2006)
Melting point:
The chemical Sodium 2-propyne-1-sulphonate is a liquid at room temperature. Thus it is not technically feasible to determine it's melting point.hence, the end point was considered for waiver.
Freezing point:
Based on available data from safety data sheet by BASF Corporation,2015,the freezing point temperature of chemical 2-Propyne-1-sulfonic acid, sodium salt (1:1) was reported to be <0 degree C.
Boiling point:
The boiling point of sodium 2-propyne-1-sulphonate was estimated to be 259.16°C.
Density:
The density of chemical 2-Propyne-1-sulfonic acid, sodium salt (1:1) was determined to be 1.18 – 1.23 g/cm3 at 30 degree C.
Particle Size Distribution:
The substance 2-Propyne-1-sulfonic acid, sodium salt is marketed in liquid form and as such this study is not required and has been omitted in accordance with Column 2 of Annex VII Section 7.14.
Vapor Pressure:
Modified Grain method was used to estimate the vapour pressure of the test chemical using MPBPVP v1.43 of EPI SUITE. The estimated vapor pressure of the test chemical is 2.01E-07Pa at 25°C
Partition Coefficient:
The octanol-water partition coefficient (log Kow) for sodium 2-propyne-1-sulphonate is estimated to be -2.17 indicating that the substance is hydrophillic in nature.
Water Solubility:
WATERNT v1.01 of EPISUITE was used to estimate the water solubility of the test chemical
The estimated water solubility of the test chemical at 25 deg C was 19904 mg/L
Based on the results, it can be concluded that the test chemical is soluble in water.
Flash point:
The flash point for 2-Propyne-1-sulfonic acid, sodium salt was predicted to be >60 degree C.
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical Sodium 2-propyne-1-sulphonate is used as an intermediate in plating chemicals. For this use, surface activity is not desired property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
pH:
The pH of test chemical 2-Propyne-1-sulfonic acid, sodium salt (1:1) was determined to be in the range of 1.5 – 2.5.
