Hexyl acetate is a clear colourless liquid with a melting point of -80°C and a boiling point of 171°C.

The relative density of hexyl acetate at 20°C is 0.875.

The vapour pressure of hexyl acetate is 0.144 kPa.

The partition coefficient n-octanol/water of hexyl acetate was reported as log Pow = 3.3 (at 30°C).

The water solubility of hexyl acetate is 430 mg/L at 19.7 °C (moderately soluble).

The surface tension of n-hexyl acetate is 26 mN/m.

A flashpoint of 58°C was obtained for hexyl acetate.

The autoignition temperature of n-Hexyl Acetate has been determined to be 242°C.

Hexyl acetate is a liquid with a flash point of 58°C. Therefore, the test material is classified as flammable Cat 3 according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 and flammable (R10) according to Directive 67/548/EEC

The substance does not contain any chemical groups associated with explosive properties. Explosive properties are associated with the presence of certain chemical groups in a molecule which can react to produce very rapid increases in temperature or pressure. When there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule then a substance or mixture shall not be classified as explosive.

Examination of the chemical structure of the substance confirms that only carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms are present. The oxygen atom is not part of a characteristic structural group of concern for oxidising properties, and nitrogen is absent from the structure. It can be predicted that the substance does not possess oxidising properties, or contribute to the combustion of other materials.

It is therefore concluded that hexyl acetate is unlikely to be an oxidising substance.

Viscosity of n-hexyl acetate is 1.075 mPa s at 25°C and 1.17 m Pa s at 20°C.
