Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Calculation with BCFBAF v3.02 (EPIWIN software by US-EPA): 3.16 L/kg wet-wt, bioaccumulation is not expected.

Additional information

The potential for bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms (most likely in fish) was not determined experimentally for Choline chloride. Based on the intrinsic properties of the test substance (i.e. logPow of -3.77, BASF AG, 1988), this study can be waived in accordance to REACH, Annex IX, Section 9.3.2, column 2.

Since the Bioconcentration Factor (BCF) is an important parameter for the chemical safety assessment of the substance, the EPIWIN software BCFBAF v3.02 was used to determine this value for Choline chloride (Chemservice S.A., 2013, updated 2022). Using the regression-based estimate (traditional method) a BCF of 3.16 L/kg wet-wt was predicted. Using the Arnot-Gobas method, which is based on mechanistic first principles, an aquatic BCF of 0.893 L/kg wet-wt is the result. These results confirm that bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms is unlikely.

Also, terrestrial bioaccumulation of Choline chloride is not expected. However, no information is available, and this endpoint is no mandatory requirement under REACH.
