Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Executive summary:

The density of solids is determined with a calibrated gas comparison pycnometer at a temperature of 20 °C ± 0.01 °C.
Pressurized Helium (He)) is expanded from a pressurized reference chamber into a sample chamber in which the test item is placed under atmospheric pressure.
The volume of the sample chamber (25.1 cm3) as well as the volume of the reference chamber (21.4 cm3) are exactly known.
The free volume of the sample chamber into which the gas is expanded can be calculated by the ideal gas law.
With the free gas volume of the sample chamber, the volume of the test item in the sample chamber can be calculated by subtracting the free gas volume from the total chamber volume.
By measuring the mass of the test item, the density is determined.
The relative density D420 is obtained by dividing the measured density of the test item by the density of water at 4 °C (0.9999750 g/cm3).

According to OECD Test Guideline 109 (2012), Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 Method A.3. and
EPA OCSPP Test Guideline OPPTS 830.7300 (2002), the Relative Density D420 of the test
item By-product from Guanidinoacetic acid manufacturing at 20 °C ± 0.01 °C (compared to water at 4 °C) is determined to be:
D420 = 1.517

Description of key information

The relative density of "By-product from Guanidinoacetic acid manufacturing" was determined applying the pycnometer method according to OECD 109 (2012).
