- Justification:
The PBT assessment of Sorbitan tridocosanoate (CAS 93980-59-7) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2017).
Persistence
Sorbitan tridocosanoate (CAS 93980-59-7) is not readily biodegradable. Abiotic degradation by hydrolysis is not expected to be a relevant degradation pathway of the substance. Based on the available screening data, the substance is assessed as potentially P/vP.
Bioaccumulation
The log BCF values calculated for the main substance components indicate a low potential for bioaccumulation. All calculated BCF values were < 500 L/kg. The substance is assumed to be metabolised and/or excreted by aquatic organisms.
Based on the available data the substance is assessed as not B/vB.
Toxicity
All available acute and chronic effect concentrations are > 0.01 mg/L. Furthermore, the substance is not classified according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and further amendments (ATPs). Therefore, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 are not met and it is concluded that the substance is not T.
In conclusion, the substance is not PBT/vPvB.
