Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Interpretation of results:
other: not classified, according to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008
Conclusions:
Non flammable
Executive summary:

The flammability potential of the test item was investigated according to the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Test method N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids).

The test item was arranged in the form of powder pile as train 250 mm long by 20 mm wide by 10 mm height aluminium mold on a non-combustible, non- porous and low heat conducting base plate. A hot flame from a burner (minimum diameter 5 mm) was applied to one end of the powder train until 2 minutes, the test item was not ignited and did not propagates 200 mm length within 4 minutes during the preliminary test. The preliminary tests were performed with two replicates.

In the preliminary experiment, the test item could not be ignited, thus no further investigation was performed.

Conclusion

Non flammable

Description of key information

Additional information

UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Test method N.1

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, 2.7 section, flammable solids, powdered, granular or pasty substances or mixtures shall be classified as readily combustible solids when the time of burning of one or more of the test runs, performed in accordance with the test method described in Part III, sub-section 33.2.1, of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, is less than 45 seconds or the rate of burning is more than 2.2 mm/s.

In the flammability test performed, the substance did not propagate burning of a 200 mm length of the strip in less than four minutes, therefore the substance resulted non flammable.

In conclusion, the Acid Green 040 does not meet the criteria to be classified as flammable, according to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
