DIRECT PHOTOLYSIS (air, water and soil)

TAED and DAED do not absorb light >290 nm (ozone band) and therefore a direct photolysis will not occur.

 

INDIRECT PHOTOLYSIS e.g. air

OH radical induced indirect photolysis of TAED and DAED can be estimated with US EPA AOPWIN Program estimating low degradation half-lives (10 respectively 19h). But as TAED and DAED are high melting solids with low vapour pressure and a low Henry’s Law Constant volatilisation is not an exposure route to be considered. Therefore this fate pathway is not relevant.

 

HYDROLYSIS

TAED is a bleaching activator used under alkaline conditions in washing processes. Under these conditions (pH 10) in presence of persalt a very rapid hydrolysis and perhydrolysis takes place resulting in a DT50 for TAED at pH 10 and 21 degree C of 3 min. (perhydrolyis) and 0.3h (hydrolysis).
