Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

DEGRADABILITY OF DIISOBUTYRYL PEROXIDE

Diisobutyryl peroxide is an instable substance. It has been demonstrated in hydrolysis and ecotoxicity studies that diisobutryl peroxide degrades rapidly. The degradation products have been confirmed in supporting studies using NMR analytical techniques (see additional information on environmental fate and behaviour). This data has been added as supporting a ecotoxicological information. It is therefore assumed that in soils and surface waters rapid conversion of this peroxide into isobutyric acid takes place.

It is well documented in openly available literature that isobutyric acid is naturallyoccurringand ready biodegradable. Discussion of this and literature references have been added to the summary in the biodegradation endpoint.Biodegradation in water and sediment and biodegradation in soil endpoints are on these grounds not considered necessary.
