Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Although no solubility testing was conducted on Disobutrylperoxide due to its hydrolytic instability, data from the ecotoxicity testing indicates that concentrations of approximately 100 mg/L can be reached before Disobutrylperoxide starts to degrade. Furthermore

Disobutrylperoxide has a low Log KOW of < 3 indicating therefore a preference for the water phase rather than adsorption to organic material . The degradation of Disobutrylperoxide to isobutryic acid as the main degradation product has been investigated in additional stability studies presented in the additional ecotoxicological information section. The high solubility of isobutryic acid as well as its low calculated log Koc and Kow indicate also that isobutryic acid will also remain in the water phase. It is well documented in openly available literature that isobutyric acid is naturally occurring and ready biodegradable. Discussion of this and literature references have been added to the summary in the biodegradation endpoint. Isobutryic acid will therefore be fully degraded in the environment and is not expected to accumulate in any environmental compartment.
