Description of key information

The alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was exposed to nominal concentrations (0.002, 0.005, 0.01, 0.04, 0.05, 0.07, 0.1 and 0.2 M). After 96 hours the EC10 and EC50 values were determined by cell count.

Additional information

No short-term toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria data were available for the test substance. Therefore, an acute aquatic algae toxicity study with potassium sulphate was used as a read across to fulfill the data gap for the test substance. The underlying hypothesis for the read-across is that the test substance hydrolyses to form sulphuric acid and potassium sulphate. At environmentally relevant pHs, sulphuric acid will ionise to form its respective sulphate ion. In water, potassium sulphate will dissociate to form potassium and sulphate ions. The potassium sulphate study was selected since the relevant species of concern is the potassium cation.
