- All test medium samples for the analytical determinations were taken from the approximate center of the test vessels (after mixing the medium) and kept at -18 °C to -25 °C until analysis.

- 100 mg test substance samples was dissolved in 200 mL test medium in a beaker, homogenized for 5 minutes by ultrasonic treatment and then filled up to 1 litre with test water. Test concentrations were prepared from this stock solution.

- The organism used in this test system is the species Daphnia magna Strauss. The daphnids were bred in the laboratories of the Product Ecology under standardised conditions.
Breeding:
-Cultures of Daphnia magna are held in glass vessels containing approx. 3.0 litre of reconstituted water at 18- 22 °C. The water is renewed partially three times per week. The daphnids are fed with a suspension of green algae (Scenedesmus subspicatus) supplemented by a TETRAMIN-extract in such quantities that the food will be consumed within 24 hours.

The acute toxicity of the test substance to Daphnia magna was determined in a GLP-compliant 48 hours static test according to the OECD Guideline 202. The nominal concentration for the main-test was 100 mg/L (limit test). Analysis of the test media showed that concentrations maintained within 95 -96 % of the nominal value. No immobilization and abnormal behaviour of the Daphnia was observed in the the controls and test medium throughout the test. Due to absence of effects, the 48-h EC50 value could not be calculated, but was clearly higher than 100 mg/L.

Determination of the EC-values:
Due to the results of a pretest the test of FAT 40557/A was performed as limit test with a concentration of 100 mg/l and a blank control without test substance. During the test the actual test concentrations in the analysed test media were in the range of 95 - 96 % of the nominal values. Therefore, the test substance was sufficiently stable and the reported results were related to the nominal values of the test concentrations of the test article. The biological results are summarized in Table 1. No immobilization and abnormal behaviour of the Daphnia was observed in the blank control and in the test concentration of 100 mg/l. Thus, the EC0 value after 48 hours was determined to be 100 mg/l. The EC100 value could not be determined.
