Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Ecotoxicological information

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Administrative data

Endpoint:
long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
Type of information:
migrated information: read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: see 'Remark'
Remarks:
Available ecotoxicity data on (hydrogen) fluoride up to 1998 was reviewed and summarised by the European Chemicals Bureau (ECB). Although detail on design and methodology is very limited in this report, endpoints and conclusions are considered suitably reliable for environmental risk assessment as the substance was assessed as part of the EU-RAR and in accordance with Council Regulation (EEC) 793/93 on the evaluation and control of risks of existing substances.

Details on results:
In both long-term tests with daphnids the NOEC is based on effects on reproduction. The arithmetric mean of both tests gives a value of 8.9 mg/L for the NOEC.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
not specified
Conclusions:
The 21-day NOEC is 8.9 mg fluoride/L in Daphnia magna (arithmetic mean of both tests).
Executive summary:

The EU RAR summarises the findings of two long-term toxicity studies with Daphnia magna exposed to sodium fluoride. The two studies provide reproductive NOEC values of 3.7 and 14.1 mg fluoride/L. The arithmetic mean NOEC of both studies is 8.9 mg fluoride/L.
