Justification for classification or non-classification
Due to the fact that IF5 rapidly hydrolised to HF and IO3 and that iodates are associated with oxidising properties, the substance should be classified as Cat 2 - H272: "May intensify fire; oxidiser" in accordance to the EU Classification, Labeling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 and as O - R8 "Oxidising; Contact with combustible material may cause fire" in accordance with EU Directive 67/548/EEC.
