- 36 male workmen occupied in the 'Aniline building' of a chemical plant were questioned in an especial thourough way as to the occurence of cyanosis, weakness, and dizziness and of symptoms referable to skin and respiratory systems. The analysis of air samples obtained in this plant revealed monomethylaniline, aniline and m-chloroaniline (0.13 and 0.29 ppm) measured on different locations.

The analysis of air samples obtained in this plant revealed monomethylaniline, aniline and m-chloroaniline (0.13 and 0.29 ppm) measured on different locations. The mean exposure period was 41.2 month. The mean age of the group of 36 was 28.2 years.
- Exposure assessment:
- measured
Results and discussion
- Results:
- Nine of the 36 workers gave a history of 'blue lip', i.e. methemoglobinemia, at least one during work. The clinical investigation and routine blood and urine diagnosis did not revealed no significant abnormalities. Of the 36 workmen, 28 had 1% or less of Heinz bodies in red blood cells, in no case was there more than 4%.
- Confounding factors:
- Aniline and monomethylaniline
