Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure water reactivity is not to be expected. In addition, under conditions where the substance is in contact with water, no ignition and/or liberation of flammable gases is observed.
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected. In addition, in the daily use and handling of the substance during which continuous exposure to air can occur, no spontaneous ignition is observed.
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
7th February 2011
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

In the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited. Based on the results of the preliminary test, no main test was performed.

Interpretation of results:
other: Not highly flammable according to EU criteria
Conclusions:
The test substance could not be ignited. Therefore, the substance is considered not to be highly flammable.
Executive summary:

Two parallel flammability tests were performed in accordance with EU Method A.10. The test substance could not be ignited in the conditions of this test. Therefore, the substance is considered not to be highly flammable.

Description of key information

Flammability (solids)

Two parallel flammability tests were performed in accordance with EU Method A.10. The test substance could not be ignited under the conditions of the test. Therefore, the substance is considered not to be highly flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Flammability (solids)

Two parallel flammability tests were performed in accordance with EU Method A.10. The test substance could not be ignited in the conditions of this test. Therefore, the substance is considered not to be highly flammable.

Flammability (pyrophoricity and contact with water)

In accordance with Section 1 of Annex XI of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH), it is considered justified to omit the Flammability (Contact with Water) and Pyrophoric Properties of Solids and Liquids studies, also required under section 7.10 of Annex VII, on the basis that the testing does not appear to be scientifically necessary.  The chemical structure of the test material contains no groups which would indicate potential reactivity with water or pyrophoric properties.  In addition, experience of handling the material and the known chemical and physical properties of the substance suggest that it is not pyrophoric and is not flammable in contact with water.

Justification for classification or non-classification

No flammable results have been observed for any of the studies performed on the test material. On this basis, no classification with regards to flammability is required according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
