- Endpoint:
- partition coefficient
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- January 29, 2003 - February 6, 2003
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- other: see 'Remark'
- Remarks:
- Only 1 reference substance was used and it was observed that a constituent of the substance elutes before this reference substance. Therefore a set of at least 6 reference substances should have been applied to determine the log Kow of this constituent by linear regression analysis. In addition, when the study is conducted in accordance with OECD 117 (2004), it can be investigated whether the log Kow of the other 2 constituents of the substance is between 6 and 10.
- Qualifier:
- equivalent or similar to guideline
- Guideline:
- OECD Guideline 117 (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol / water), HPLC Method)
- Version / remarks:
- (1989)
- Deviations:
- yes
- Remarks:
- only 1 reference substance was used and it was observed that a constituent of the substance elutes before this reference substance; therefore a set of at least 6 reference substance should have been applied to determine the log Kow of this constituent
- Qualifier:
- equivalent or similar to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.8 (Partition Coefficient)
- Version / remarks:
- (1992)
- Deviations:
- yes
- Remarks:
- only 1 reference substance was used and it was observed that a constituent of the substance elutes before this reference substance; therefore a set of at least 6 reference substance should have been applied to determine the log Kow of this constituent
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Type of method:
- HPLC method
- Partition coefficient type:
- octanol-water
- Analytical method:
- other: HPLC-UV
- Type:
- log Pow
- Partition coefficient:
- >= 6
- Temp.:
- 26 °C
- Remarks on result:
- other: Result based on comparison with the reference substance 2,4-DDT only. Not determined by linear regression analysis. As the log Pow of 2,4-DDT is 6.3 and 1 of the 3 constituents elutes before this reference substance, it should be used with care.
- Details on results:
- 1 reference substance was used and it was observed that a constituent of the substance eluted before this reference substance. Therefore a set of at least 6 reference substances should have been used to determine the log Kow of this constituent by linear regression analysis.
- Conclusions:
- The Competent Authority of France concluded in 2003 that the log Kow of the substance is ≥6 at 26°C.
Reference
Preliminary tests
- An n-octanol solubility of < 1 g/L was found
- Calculated values:
Constituent #1: log Pow = 9.25
Constituent #2: log Pow = 14.16
Constituent #3: log Pow = 19.07
Retention times (test #1)
N,N-dimethylformamide, t0 = 0.346 min
DDT = 1.858 min
KY-EU = 1.700 min (1st peak), 2.188 min (2nd peak)
Confirmation of peak identity (result test #2)
- The obtained peak pattern was similar to the one provided by the Sponsor
- The retention time of DDT (5.865 min) was close to the retention time of the 1st major large peak originating from the test substance (5.649)
Description of key information
The log Kow of the substance is ≥6 at 26°C.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Log Kow (Log Pow):
- 6
- at the temperature of:
- 26 °C
Additional information
The Competent Authority of France concluded in 2003 that the log Kow of the substance is ≥6 at 26°C.
