Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

As 2-ethyhexanoic acid causes a pH-shift of the test solutions, test results were obtained from a study performed with the sodium salt of the acid (sodium 2-ethylhexanoate, CAS 19766-89-3). This substance does not cause a pH-shift and the test solutions can be regarded as neutralized solutions of the acid. Therefore, observed effects are related to the test substance and not to a pH shift.

The study was performed according to OECD guideline 203 using Oryzias latipes as test organism (NITE, J-CHECK databank, Japan 2002). This limit test was conducted under supervision of the Japanese Ministry of the Environment. This study was conducted under GLP. The test concentrations were analytically verified and deviated less than 20% from the nominal concentrations. The study was used as a key study for the assessment of the acute toxicity of CAS 149-57-5 to fish. In this study the 96-h LC50 was determined to be higher than the limit test concentration of 100 mg/L (nominal, analytically verified, rep. no.: A010465-4, J-CHECK, Japan).

It can be concluded that the substance is with high probability acutely not harmful to fish.
