Phototransformation in air is not relevant due to low vapour pressure (< 0.00001 Pa).

Experimental results on phototransformation of Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., hexaesters with dipentaerythritol (CAS 68604-38-6) are not available. A calculation using AOPWIN v1.92 indicates that the substance components will be rapidly photodegraded by reaction with hydroxyl radicals (Blum, 2011). The half-life estimated (based on 24 h day; OH-concentration: 0.5E+06 OH/cm³) for the C16 FA component and C18 FA component of Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd, hexaesters with dipentaerythritol was 2.87 hours, whereas for the C18 FA unsat. component of the substance a half-life up to 51.08 minutes for the trans-isomer was calculated (cis isomer: 46.4 minutes). However, due to the low vapour pressure of the single components (< 0.00001 Pa at 20 °C, SPARC v4.6) evaporation of the substance to the atmosphere is unlikely and thus photodegradation is no relevant pathway.As this study is not a standard information requirement in REACh and there is no indication from the Chemical Safety Assessment (CSA) on the need to investigate further the fate and behaviour of the substance (Annex X requirement), no further testing is considered necessary for the substance.
