Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

log Kow (constituents of the substance): >7.2 at 35°C and pH 7.3 (measured)
log Kow (constituents): 8.13 - >9.0 at 20°C (QSAR)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The log Kow values of the constituents of the substance have been determined using HPLC method in accordance with OECD 117 Test Method and in compliance with GLP. Partition coefficient of the constituents of the substance was determined to be >1.58 x 107 (log10 Pow  >7.2) at 35°C and pH 7.3. The result was considered to be reliable and is selected as key study.

The measured log Kow study is supported by predicted log Kow values for individual constituents of the submission substance. The log Kow of each constituent has been predicted using a validated QSAR estimation method. The prediction method uses a fragment method and log Kow increases with increasing carbon number. The prediction domain covers carbon chain length in the range C1-C18 carbon atoms, it is therefore expected that log Kow for longer chain length (i.e. greater than C18) compounds will be greater than the predicted value of 9.18 for n-octadecane. Thus a limit log Kow value of >9 was assigned and reported for all carbon numbers greater than C18 atoms.
