Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- Endpoint:
- flammable solids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 20 March - 28 March, 2017
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
- Version / remarks:
- 31 May 2008
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Key result
- Test procedure:
- burning time over 250 mm for metal powders or metal alloys
- Remarks on result:
- substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
- Remarks:
- The test item is considered not highly flammable.
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- In the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited. Based on the results of the preliminary test, no main test was performed.
The test item is considered not highly flammable. - Executive summary:
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the flammability of the test item. The test item was formed into a powder train. It was ignited by a gas flame and the burning rate was determined.
Two parallel flammability tests were performed. The tests were negative.
The test item is not considered highly flammable under the conditions of this test.

Description of key information
The flammability of solids of Benzene, 1,1’-oxybis(methyl-, sulfonated, ammonium salt (dried powder) was determined in a GLP study using the burning rate test (Flammability of solids EU method A.10, Toxicoop, 2017).
The test item has not to be classified as flammable solid according to GHS / CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.7.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- not classified
Additional information
The study concerning pyrophoric solid does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.
The study concerning substances which in contact with water emit flammable gases does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture.
The study concerning self-heating substances does not need to be conducted because the substance is manufactured and used as an aqueous solution. According to ECHA’s Guidance on the Application of the CLP criteria, version 5.0 July 2017, p.181, section 2.11.4.2 self-heating does not need to be tested for liquids.
Justification for classification or non-classification
