Executive summary:

The oxidizing properties of pyridiniumsulfonate were investigated in a study conducted according to EU Method A.17 (Oxidising Properties (Solids; 2008). During three preliminary tests the mixture of the test substance with cellulose could be ignited. The test item melted and burned slowly. Due to the fact that no vigorous reaction was observed, the full main test was performed. In the main test the maximum burning rate of the reference mixture barium nitrate/cellulose (60:40 (w/w)) was determined to be 1.54 mm/s. The highest burning rate of the mixture of test item and cellulose (10:90 (w/w)) was 1.27 mm/s. The highest burning rate of a mixture of test item and cellulose (1.27 mm/s) is lower compared to the highest burning rate of a reference mixture of barium nitrate with cellulose (1.54 mm/s). In conclusion of the result, pyridiniumsulfonate has no oxidizing properties.
