Description of key information

FAT 20003 is not rapidly biodegradable, but fulfils the criteria of primary, inherent biodegradability.

Additional information

This particular substance is designed to be used as a dye for diverse textile fabrics. To ensure high performance and quality of the treated fabric, those classes of chemical substances are designed to be not biodegradable by microorganisms. Nevertheless, the substance was tested for degradation in several studies.

However, several studies investigating the inherent biodegradability as well as chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD5) of FAT 20003 are available. These studies indicate that FAT 20003 is not rapidly biodegradable, but fulfils the criteria of primary, inherent biodegradability.
