Description of key information

The QSAR calculated rate constant for the OH sensitized photodegradation of cis-cyclooctene is approximately 6.43E-11 cm3/(molecule * s). At 500,000 OH radicals / cm3 (approximate 24-hour mean in central Europe), this corresponds to a half-life of 6 hours. The QSAR calculated rate constant for the ozone sensitized photodegradation of cis-cyclooctene is approximately 2.0E-16 cm3/(molecule * s). At 7.0E+11 O3 molecules / cm3, this corresponds to a half-life of 1.375 hours. Referring to 24 hour-days the half-life will be twice as long, i.e. 2.75 hours. The overall half-life will therefore be about 2 hours.
