Test material

Constituent 1
Reference substance name:
propylene oxide
IUPAC Name:
propylene oxide
Constituent 2
Reference substance name:
Methyloxirane
EC Number:
200-879-2
EC Name:
Methyloxirane
Cas Number:
75-56-9
IUPAC Name:
2-methyloxirane
Details on test material:
>99.8 mole % pure, containing 0.12 mole % water;
Test material was racemate from both R(+) and S(-) propylene oxide. This endpoint is not measured / determined with enantio-selective sensors.
Therefore the R(+) value is identical to the racemate endpoint.

Any other information on results incl. tables

The density of propylene oxide, (>99.8 mole % pure, containing 0.12 mole % water), was determined by pycnometer to be 831 kg.m-3 at 20°C (BASF, 1977b). This is equivalent to a relative density (D4 20) of 0.831 and is in close agreement with the value of 0.8305 (Jefferson Chemicals, 1960) also determined by pycnometer.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
A density value of 0.831 g/cm³ is reported at 20°C in a collection of reliable data which has been subject to peer-review and in which the original data sources are traceable. The result is considered to be reliable.
