Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
603 L/kg ww

Additional information

The BCF (aquatic sediment) of 2-hexyldecanol is predicted to be 603 and 620 using the regression-based and Arnot-Gobas upper trophic approach, respectively, using a calculated log KOW of 6.66 (BCFBAF, EPI Suite). The major difference is that the Arnot-Gobas method takes into account metabolism of the substance by the organism. For a readily metabolized substance, this limits how much the body can concentrate. In the regression-based estimate approach, biotransformation is not taken into account.

The associated biomagnification factors (BMF) for both BCF is 1. The additional molecular size modelling provides evidence to predict that BCF estimates should be lower than anticipated as the expected cross-sectional diameter of 2-hexyldecanol molecule exceeds 9.5 Å, above which threshold bioconcentration has been shown to decrease rapidly.
