Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Stability

Hydrolysis does not need to be investigated since methyl (S)-lactate is assessed to be readily biodegradable.

Biodegradation

Methyl (S)-lactate is assessed as readily biodegradable. Further degradation tests (in surface water, sediment, or soil) do not need to be conducted.

Bioaccumulation

Based on (bio)degradability, aqueous solubility and log Kow, methyl (S)-lactate will not bioconcentrate.

Transport and distribution

Adsorption/desorption: The calculated KOC from the molecular connectivity index is 1 L/kg.

Moreover, methyl (S)-lactate is readily biodegradable. Therefore, the test substance is considered to have low potential for absorption and no further testing is required.
