EC number: 269-047-4 | CAS number: 68186-85-6 This substance is identified in the Colour Index by Colour Index Constitution Number, C.I. 77377.
The product C.I. Pigment Green 50 (without and including its impurity Ni titanate) is with high probability acutely not harmful to algae.
Two studies according to OECD 201 on Desmodesmus subspicatus and Scenedesmus subspicatus are available. The results of a limit test by MOE (2001) with 1 mg/L test substance (C.I. Pigment Yellow 53) and a static exposure accomplished by BASF AG (1999) indicate that the test substance has no toxic effects in the range of its water solubility (NOEC >1 mg/L and EC50 >100mg/L, respectively). A slight effect on the growth (based on biomass) was observed in Desmodesmus subspicatus at a threshold value below nominal 100 mg/l [EbC10 (72 h) = 64.1 mg/l], which probably is due to a reduction of light intensity due to coloration or clouding in test water at high substance concentrations.
It is assumed that the result is identical to C.I. Pigment Green 50.
Furthermore, the acute reference values of 120 and 68 µg Ni/L for pH 6.0 and 8.0 are well above of the Ni concentration after two different loading rats of P.I Pigment Green 50 (including the impurity Ni titanate): The concentrations were 3 and 40 µg Ni/L at pH 5.5 and < 1 and 17 µg Ni/L at pH 8.5 at loadings of 1 and 100 mg P.I Pigment Green 50/L, respectively (see section 7.9 for details).
Therefore, with a high probability the pigment is acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms.
