Description of key information

Glycerol tribenzoate has an extremely low practical water/media solubility (3.3 ug/L in algal test medium and 1.71 ug/L in M4 media, estimated in the analytical method).
Exhaustive attempts were made to validate an analytical method to support the aquatic ecotoxicology studies but without success. The confidential analytical report is attached for full disclosure and reference.
Pre-tests were undertaken for both the aquatic invertebrates and algal study to assist will the biology study but also to enable the analytical method to be tested.
Analytical results of these pre-tests demonstrate that the method was not suitable to determine such low levels of achieved concentration. It should be noted that dilution of the samples was not validated and used extrapolation outside of the validated calibration line and so these results are not relied upon.
In so supporting the analytical method development, the number of replicates / organisms to meet the requirements of a limit test was achieved for both the algae and daphnia test and these results are presented here.
In conclusion, Glycerol tribenzoate is not toxic to algae and daphnia when dose at a rate of up to 100 mg/L.
