Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The surface tension of a 1000 mg/L aqueous solution of Chimexane HB (lyophilized) was determined according to OECD Guideline 115 and Directive 92/69/EEC Method A.5, under GLP, during the determination of the critical micelle concentration (CMC). The determination was carried out in ten measurements with a tensiometer (ring method) at a temperature of 20.0°C.

The surface tension was to be 30.08 mN/m (standard deviation 0.1 mN/m).

Due to the fact that the surface tension is < 60 mN/m, the test item is classified as surface-active substance.

Additional information

The surface tension of a 1 g/L aqueous solution of Chimexane HB (lyophilized) was determined according to OECD Guideline 115 and Directive 92/69/EEC Method A.5 , under GLP, during the determination of the critical micelle concentration (CMC) study. This surface tension was carried out in ten measurements with a tensiometer (ring method) at a temperature of 20.0°C.

The surface tension was to be 30.08 mN/m (standard deviation 0.1 mN/m).

Even if the purity of the lyophilised substance was not reported in the study report, the result of the surface tension was considered in a weight of evidence approach because the concentration to be considered (1g/L of chimexane HB lyophilized) is well above the critical micelle concentration of the substance (CMC = 158.4 mg/L).

The CHIMEXANE HB showing a surface tension lower than 60 mN/m under the conditions of this method, should be regarded as being surface-active material.
