- No mortality was observed in the test medium after 24 and 48 hours, therefore the NOEC (highest concentration tested without toxic effects after the exposure period) of Sesbania grandiflora dry purified extract to Daphnia magna was determined to be equal to the nominal tested concentration of 100.0 mg/L.
Based on the observed effects, the LOEC and the 48-h IC50 were determined to be greater than the tested concentration, 100.0 mg/L. - Executive summary:
The acute toxicity of the test itemSesbania grandifloradry purified extract toDaphnia magnawas determined in a 48‑hour static test according to the EU Commission Directive 92/69/EEC, Part C.2 (1992), and the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals, No. 202 (2004).
For this purpose, juvenile daphnids were exposed to an aqueous test medium containing the test item at the only nominal concentration of 100.0 mg/L. The exposed organisms were checked for immobilization 24 and 48 hours after test initiation.
The pH of the test medium after preparation was 7.49 for test item and 7.45 for control. Therefore, the pH of the test medium was not adjusted before the start of the test.
The room temperature was in the range 20.7 –during the test period, these values slightly exceeded the OECD’s recommended range (20.0±2.0 °C), however this excess did not affect the results of the study, as showed by the immobilization data in the control.
In the control 0% mortality was observed during the test period of 48 hours. This value complies with the validity criteria of the test according to the mentioned guidelines that provide a maximum value of mortality in the control of 10%.
