- The rainbow trout used in the test were supplied by Wilmington Trout Fann, Devon and arrived at Huntingdon Life Sciences (Eye) 19 January 1996. At the laboratory, they were held in an aerated supply of dilution water under flow-through conditions until removed for testing.
The fish were maintained and the study conducted in treated tap water (dechlorinated tap water which had been blended with reverse-osmosis, softened tap water). No mortality occurred during the 14-day period before the test. The mean wet-weight of the fish used in the test was 1.2 g; their mean fork length was 4.8 cm. - Test type:

- Groups of five fish were exposed to FARMIN DM 08P at nominal concentrations of 0.1, 0.32, 1, 3.2, 10, 32 and 100 mg/L. A control group comprising five fish was exposed to dilution water alone.
At 1 mg/L and higher concentrations, the test media were prepared by adding the appropriate weight of test material directly to the dilution water (14 litres); at 0.1 and 0.32 mg/L, they were prepared by dilution of an aqueous stock solution nominally containing 10 mg/L. At 32 and 100 mg/L, the pH of the dilution medium was affected by the test material and required adjustment with 1M hydrochloric acid; their pHs were adjusted from 8.5 and 8.9 respectively to 8.3 before use. The media were gently aerated during the test.

The LC50 concentration for AD-1 for rainbow trout was estimated to be 5.7 mg/L - Executive summary:
A study was conducted to determine the acute toxicity of the test substance AD-1 to Onchoryncus mykiss (rainbow trout).
Range finding tests were performed to determine the approximate response range for the test species. Nominal concentrations used in this test included 0.0 mg/L (control), 0.1 mg/L; 0.32 mg/L; 1.0 mg/L; 3.2 mg/L; 10 mg/L; 32 mg/L; and 100 mg/L. Bioassays with trout consisted of a single exposure containing a total of five fish per test level. The results of this preliminary test showed that AD-1 was lethal to trout concentrations > 3.2 mg/L and < 10 mg/L.
Based on non-linear interpolation between the two concentrations which bracket 50% effect level (3.2 and 10 mg/L), the LC50 was estimated at 5.7 mg/L. The NOEC concentration was 0.1 mg/L
