Executive summary:

In a 72 hour acute toxicity study (CAS 80939 -62 -4, RCC, 2007), the cultures of the green algal species Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata were exposed to the test item under static conditions in accordance with OECD guideline 201. Due to its low solubility in water the test item was tested by preparing Water-Accommodated-Fractions (WAFs). The loading rates of 0, 0.032, 0.1, 0.32,1.0,3.2, 10 mg/L was tested. The NOEC and EC50 values based on the loading rates on growth rate were 3.2 and >10 mg/L, respectively. The NOEC and EC50 values based on loading rates on Yield were 3.2 and 7.1 mg/L, respectively.

Description of key information

ErC50 (72h) >10.0 mg/L (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, OECD 201, nominal, read-across to CAS 80939 -62 -4)

ErC10 (72h) = 4.9 mg/L (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, OECD 201, nominal, read-across to CAS 80939 -62 -4)

NOEC (72h) = 3.2 mg/L (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, OECD 201, nominal, read-across to CAS 80939 -62 -4)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
3.2 mg/L

Additional information

No data are available on the toxicity of Amines, C12-14-tert-alkyl, mixed sec-Bu and iso-Bu phosphates (CAS No. 96690-34-5) to aquatic algae. Therefore data from the analogue substance Amines, C11-14-branched alkyl, monohexyl and dihexyl phosphates (CAS 80939-62-4) were used as read across. This read-across is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 and justified in detail in the overall summary (IUCLID Chapter 6.1) and within the analogue justification attached in IUCLID Section 13.

Due to its low solubility in water the test item was tested by preparing Water-Accommodated-Fractions (WAFs). Nominal loading rates of 0.032, 0.1, 0.32,1.0, 3.2, 10 mg/L and a blank were tested. The NOEC and EC50 values based on the nominal loading rates on growth rate were 3.2 and >10 mg/L, respectively. The NOEC and EC50 values based on loading rates on Yield were 3.2 and 7.1 mg/L, respectively.
