PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
Trifluoroiodomethane
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
gas
Reference substance:
Trifluoroiodomethane
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Persistency

The substance was determined to be not readily biodegradable in an OECD TG 301D test. But, in the air atmosphere, which is the main fate compartment of the substance, degradation via reaction with OH radicals is assumed to rapid. The half-life time was experimentally deteremined to be 2.67 days (Nyden et al., 1995), with supporting information presenting a half-life time of 1.15 days (NAS Review). Therefore, the substance can be regarded as not persistent in the environment (not P).

Bioaccumulation

As the log Kow is below 4.5, the substance satisfies the screening criterion to be considered as not bioaccumulative (Not B).

Toxicity

The substance is not considered toxic in the environment based on long-term aquatic toxicity data. Furthermore, the substance does not meet the criteria for classification as carcinogenic (category 1A or 1B), germ cell mutagenic (category 1A or 1B), or toxic for reproduction (category 1A, 1B or 2) according to Regulation EC No 1272/2008; and no further evidence of chronic toxicity is observed as the substance does not meet the criteria for classification: specific target organ toxicity after repeated exposure (STOT RE category 1 or 2) according to Regulation EC No 1272/2008 (not T).
