Melting point / melting range // boiling point / boiling range: Differential scanning calorimetry

A DSC measurement in an aluminium crucible with a hole showed an endothermal effect in the temperature range of 100 – 320 °C and a multistage exothermal effect in the temperature range of 335 – 475 °C. After the measurement the test item was a black solid. The mass loss after the DSC measurement amounted to 45 %. A second DSC measurement in an aluminium crucible with a hole was terminated at 320 °C. Again an endothermal effect in the temperature range of 120 – 310 °C was observed. After the measurement the test item was unchanged. No melting occurred. The mass loss after the DSC measurement amounted to 8 %. The result of the DSC measurement is summarized in Table1.

Under consideration of the result from the DSC measurement it was concluded that the test item had no melting point and no boiling point at atmospheric conditions. Decomposition started at approx. 335 °C.

Executive summary:

The test item had no melting point and no boiling point at atmospheric conditions. Decomposition started at approx. 335 °C.
