Guideline:
EPA OPPTS 830.7550 (Partition Coefficient, n-octanol / H2O, Shake Flask Method)
Version / remarks:
August, 1996
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
flask method
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Test item 207569/B
Identification Quaternium-26
Appearance Clear amber to dark amber liquid
Batch 0001954899
Composition UVCB
Storage At room temperature
Stable under storage conditions until 22 December 2017 (retest date)
Analytical method:
other: Since the test item is surface active, the partition coefficient was calculated using the critical micelle concentration and the n-octanol solubility.
Key result
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
>= 3.4
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: pH not measured.
Details on results:
After the stirring period, the solution of the test sample in n-octanol was clear lacking undissolved test item. Hence, it was concluded that the n-octanol solubility of at 20°C was ≥ 1016 g/L. The critical micelle concentration was determined to be 0.407 g/L. As a result, the Pow, calculated as the quotient of the n-octanol- and CMC, is ≥ 2.5e3 corresponding with a log Pow value of ≥ 3.4.
Conclusions:
The estimation method was applied for the determination of the partition coefficient (Pow) of Quaternium-26. The Pow value of the test item at 20°C was ≥ 2500 corresponding with a log Pow value of ≥ 3.4.
