Specific details on test material used for the study:
Test item 207569/B
Identification Quaternium-26
Appearance Clear amber to dark amber liquid
Batch 00001954899
Purity/Composition: UVCB
Test item storage: At room temperature
Stable under storage conditions until 22 December 2017 (retest date)
Purity/composition correction factor applied is about 1/0.6 based on the fact that approx. 40% is propylene glycol.
Melting / freezing pt.:
< -80 °C
Atm. press.:
1 atm
Decomposition:
yes
Decomp. temp.:
> 125 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Evaporation of propylene glycol and/or reaction/decomposition of the test item was observed starting at 125°C.
Conclusions:
The melting temperature of Quaternium-26 was determined to be < -80°C (< 193K) by applying a storage experiment in the freezer. Reaction and/or decomposition of Quaternium-26 was observed during DSC experiments to start at a temperature of 125°C (398K).

Results and discussion

Boiling point
Boiling pt.:
> 125 °C
Atm. press.:
1 atm
Decomposition:
ambiguous
Remarks:
From 125°C upwards the weight of the sample decreased significantly. At 210°C, the sample weight had decreased by 25%. Possible causes are evaporation of propylene glycol (boiling point: 187.6) and/or decomposition of the test item.
Decomp. temp.:
> 125 °C
