Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
stability in organic solvents and identity of relevant degradation products
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Review letter summarizing information related to the stability of mmt in organic solvents. IR test results supporting the review letter statements were also included.
Qualifier:
no guideline available
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Using infrared spectroscopy the stability of mmt in xylene was evaluated.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Test substance stable:
yes

A blend of 90% mmt in 10% xylene (measurements by weight) demonstrated stability after seven days in storage. Infrared spectroscopy showed that the absorbance peaks from day seven overlay those from day one.

Conclusions:
A blend of 90% mmt in 10% xylene (measurements by weight) demonstrated stability after seven days in storage. Infrared spectroscopy showed that the absorbance peaks from day seven overlay those from day one.

Description of key information

Additional information

mmt is stable in organic solvents, like gasoline (mixture of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons). It remains homogeneous for extended storage periods.

When a mmt (90%) in xylene (10%) mixture was evaluated by infrared spectroscopy, the day eight peaks overlayed the peaks from day 1 indicating stability of the initial mixture.
